Welcome to your Staff Vaccination Support Service

The Staff Vaccination Support Service, run by ACSA and LASA on behalf of the Department of Health, is providing advice and support to providers with lower vaccination rates. We will also be sharing stories of vaccination success and tips on how to achieve full vaccination of staff.

We are pleased to advise there is now a website link on the health.gov.au website which will be updated as hub listings change. The link is: COVID-19 vaccination – Vaccination hubs | Australian Government Department of Health – we encourage you to share this link in your communications.

Booster clinics for residential aged care: Commonwealth vaccine administrators will contact you to confirm your in-reach service

The Department is working with vaccine providers to schedule all remaining residential aged care booster clinics for January.

Following the Government’s announcement on 24 December 2021 to reduce the interval between a second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and a booster dose from five months to four months, we are now bringing forward booster clinics.

If your facility has not had a booster clinic, a Commonwealth vaccine provider will contact you to schedule a clinic for January. For those that have a clinic scheduled, your vaccine provider may also call to discuss bringing the date forward.

In making these changes to further bring forward eligibility, the Australian Government has acted on the expert medical advice of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

Residents of aged care facilities and workers who received their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine at least four months ago are now eligible to receive a booster dose.

The Government will also further bring forward, as of 31 January 2022, the interval for eligibility to three months. This decision is based on ATAGI advice and operational planning from the National COVID-19 Vaccine Taskforce.

Immunocompromised people who have received three primary doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will be able to receive a booster dose in line with the timing for the general population. Third doses are administered to people who are medically assessed as being severely immunocompromised.

All residential aged care facilities are being offered an in-reach booster clinic delivered by a Commonwealth vaccine provider.

Each facility will be supported by their Primary Health Network as the main point of contact for the booster roll out.

To help you and your residents prepare for your booster clinic, a copy of the clinic advice and consent form is available here.

Reminder: reporting on resident booster and third dose vaccinations now mandatory

It is now mandatory for residential aged care providers to report resident booster vaccinations via the My Aged Care portal each Tuesday.

The requirement to report on resident boosters reflects the importance of booster vaccinations in managing COVID-19 outbreaks and understanding the level of risk at a facility. This is particularly important as the Omicron variant continues to spread.

It is now also mandatory for residential aged care providers to report resident third dose vaccinations of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Many providers, who have been reporting the information voluntarily since the functionality was introduced, will already be familiar with the reporting process.

Providers are also advised that weekly reporting on resident and workforce COVID-19 vaccination continues to be mandatory in 2022.

Guidance for residential aged care providers on reporting resident and workforce COVID-19 vaccinations is available on the Department of Health’s Mandatory COVID-19 vaccination reporting page and in this fact sheet
